Dubuque, Iowa lays on the banks of the mightly Mississippi River and proudly claims to be the place ‘where Iowa started’! Just minutes from the borders of both Illinois and Wisconsin this river side town has something for everyone! Whether you are travelling as a couple or a family with kids or if you are a foodie or enjoy being in the great outdoors! Here’s a giant list of some of my favourite things to do in Dubuque as told by a local (including free things to do)!
I’ve written about Kenosha, Wisconsin several times already but what better way than to stick it all together in a helpful guide, just in time for the summer! Kenosha is located on the shores of Lake Michigan, 40 miles South of Milwaukee and 66 miles North of Chicago! There are lots of fun things to do in Kenosha and so many great places to eat!
Mason City is a ridiculously creative town in Iowa. From music, to architecture, to puppetry to ‘street’ art, it has it all! It has some pretty big famous connections too! In this guide I share some of the cool things to do in Mason City!
The city of Janesville is located in the south of Wisconsin, just 25 minutes away from the Illinois border. It lays along the Rock River and offers a range of ways to get out and enjoy the outdoors, after all, it is known for the amount of parks and green spaces! Here are a few ideas of ways to enjoy your summer days!
Roseville MN (Minnesota) is proud of the fact that it’s ‘Perfectly Positioned’ for a visit to Minneapolis and St Paul and I would have to agree! It’s the only town to border both of the cities to the North and is located just off the I-35W giving quick access to many places in the Twin Cities! Roseville dates back to the mid 1800’s and holds a few crazy USA ‘firsts’, it was home to the very first Target store in America and the first McDonald’s in Minnesota!
Golf tourism is pretty big…now I suck at golf, so much so if I think there’s a chance of me losing my ball, I’ll pick it up and move it to the other side of the ‘obstacle’. BUT when it comes to mini golf I just can’t resist it, I absolutely love it, I’ve played mini golf courses all around the world and I think I’ve found my all time favourite. Can Can Wonderland in St Paul, Minnesota has hit the nail on the head (…or should that be putter on the golf ball?) and judging by the amount of people that battled through a blizzard to play mini golf, I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that!
Ironic hey, go to a mall to do no shopping?! But believe me, it’s possible to spend a whole day at the Mall of America in Bloomington Minnesota without even entering one of the 500+ stores (…actually that’s a lie, the parking lots enter the mall through shops…so maybe you’ll have to go into just one store…!). Especially on a rainy/dull/cold/blizzard day the Mall is a perfect attraction, everything is under one roof! Putting its size into perspective, because you know me, I can’t resist a British comparison, you can fit 441 Big Bens into the Mall of America! Here are some of my favourite things to do at Mall of America!
Because of geographical location of Dubuque Iowa, there are plenty of opportunities to get ‘up high’ and experience some of Dubuque’s vantage points! Sitting along the banks of the Mississippi River, it is possible to see 3 States (Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin) at once from the majority of these viewpoints!
