I have a bit of a love hate relationship when it comes to seagulls. I always go on and on about how I love the Great British seaside and going to the beach just isn’t the same without their constant squawking noise. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But I find that I’m starting to hate them because they poop on you, they are big and scary and they are turning into menaces and it’s the fault of the human population. Why? Because people keep feeding seagulls!!!
Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort was one of those places that I first saw in an Australia guide book (…back before blogs really existed!) and was like yep, I have to go there! It is a destination which gives you the opportunity to encounter WILD dolphins right from the beach. No boats, no tours, just dolphins coming right up to the beach! They have been visiting the beach on an almost daily basis for over 50 years!
I’ve had a bit of a soft spot for sea turtles for a while now. One of my first solo trips was to Costa Rica where I joined a sea turtle conservation project and I have since been fortunate enough to swim alongside these animals in Australia, the Maldives and Belize. During my trip to the Florida Keys, I knew I had to pay a visit to the Turtle Hospital in Marathon and check out the amazing work that they are doing for these creatures.
