Stretching 2448 miles across America, starting in Chicago, Illinois and finishing up in LA, California, taking in a total of 8 States. But how long does it take to drive Route 66 from Chicago to California? This is my tried and tested 16 day Route 66 road trip Itinerary with side trips to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas (so essentially stepping foot in 9 States!). I include: the daily miles covered, travel time (with stops), must see roadside attractions, where to stay and where to eat!

6 Restaurants on Route 66!
When doing a road trip like Route 66, you pass through hundreds of little towns, all with places to stop and eat, it’s impossible to stop at every single one without either bankrupting yourself or returning home double the weight of what you were when you started! To save money, for some meals we stopped at gas stations and supermarkets such as Walmart and ate the complimentary breakfasts at the hotels, this way we only had to pay for a full meal once a day. Here are 6 of my favourite restaurants along Route 66!

Route 66. Dating back to 1926. The classic American road trip, spanning 2448 miles across 8 States from Illinois, all the way to California on the West Coast. There is SO much to see and do. I spent just under 3 weeks (with a side trip to Vegas) on the road, averaging roughly around 300 miles day, but we did have to by pass some attractions. It’s impossible to stop at every museum and gift shop after all! Most of the Route passes through little forgotten towns, these are often where you’ll find the friendliest of people that are so happy to talk about their life on Route 66. Here’s a list of some of my must see Route 66 roadside attractions, that I believe are well worth a stop.
