You may have noticed that I’m slightly obsessed with my Fitbit Flex. Now more than ever because I signed up for Run The Year, a just for fun fitness challenge with the aim of walking/running/hiking 2,017 miles in 2017! To put this into perspective, to complete this alone, it would mean doing 5.5miles (13,000 steps) EVERYDAY for the whole year! Don’t worry, you can also sign up with a buddy and complete the challenge as part of a team!
There are so many different types of fun runs now that are open to people of all ages and abilities, 5k’s (3miles), 10k’s, women’s only, colour runs, mud runs, bubble runs, chocolate runs and 5k inflatable obstacle run! Gung Ho is a ‘touring’ event around the UK, my nearest was located at Brand’s Hatch Racecourse in Kent. I was booked in for the 10.45am ‘wave’ time. Start times were staggered all through the day to stop bottle necks at the inflatables that were approximately every 500 metres along the course. Some obstacles were easier than others!
I’m always under the impression that if I lived in a place that had a nice beach/waterfront boardwalk, I’d be the type of person that’d go running in the morning or evening, it always looks so relaxing. Currently I live on the edge of town, with fields, a river and a lovely new cycle path, but do I run along it? No, not anymore, because you just used to end up being chased by dogs. So it seems that when I travel, I actually exercise more than what I do when I’m at home. Here are 5 fun ways to stay active while on the road!
