Mineral Point, Wisconsin has a strong Cornish heritage and lead mining history. In the early 1800’s when the mines in Cornwall, England started closing up, the miners emigrated to the USA in search of work, eventually settling in this corner of the Midwest. Mineral Point is one of the oldest towns in Wisconsin thanks to the lead mining industry. It also has a strong Cornish heritage! Cornwall is a county in the UK (and a place I have visited 6 times, it holds a special place in my heart!). In the early 1800’s when the mines in Southwest England started to close down, the Cornish miners emigrated to the ‘New World’ in search of work. Some miners settled in Mineral Point WI. During the 25th Annual Cornish Festival, I decided to dig deep and find some of the British connections!
