I still find it hard to believe that Hawaii is one of the American States. It sounds silly but it honestly feels like a million miles away from mainland USA! (With my Green Card I could technically live in paradise!!) If you’re looking for things to do in Oahu, in this post I share a whole range of things that I squeezed into a 1 week trip! Oahu is small enough to be able to see a good amount of the island in just a short time. We hired a car for half of the week to explore the parts of the island that are outside of Honolulu, allowing us to get out of the city and appreciate the quieter parts of Oahu!
If you book a trip to Hawaii, there’s a high chance that you’ve obviously got beaches on your mind and there are certainly plenty to choose from! My week in Oahu felt a bit like a beach crawl, jumping in from a swim at every given opportunity! In this post, I share with you 5 of the best beaches in oahu and give you some tips for visiting!
One of the cool parts of travelling is being able to experience things that are part of the culture you are visiting. Before I went to Hawaii, a neighbour recommended us to have a go on an Outrigger Canoe while visiting Oahu. Outrigger Canoes are similar to a narrow dug out canoe but with a giant stabiliser on one side. In Polynesian cultures as well as a method of transport, they are used in racing too!
I do everything at 100mph, it takes a lot to actually stop me in my tracks and go ‘woah this is actually awesome’. Being the adventure/adrenaline traveller I am, believe it or not, I’m not always satisfied with just the ‘3D image’ of scenery. I sometimes need the 4D element to really appreciate it. I need to feel it, be part of it, truly experience it. Fresh water swimming makes a change from the burning salt water of the sea and swimming in waterfalls is definitely a pretty cool experience! Here are some of my favourite waterfalls I’ve swum in!
My guilty pleasure when travelling, is ICE CREAM! I have no shame in admitting that I’m the pig that’ll go for the 3+ scoops every time and often have more than one a day just because I can! Gelato is amazing, whippy ice cream is yum, cone, tub, I’m not fussed (gotta admit though, I’m not so much of a chocolate fan!)! I’m always on the hunt for cool ice cream parlours, here’s a couple of the more unique ones I’ve found!
I think mailboxes are something us Brits will always kinda struggle to understand. I mean where’s the security?! Once our mail gets posted through the slot in our front door, that’s it! It’s locked behind closed doors! When it’s cold and rainy and you can’t be bothered to go outside, the mail is right there ready and waiting on the door mat! BUT, you can’t decorate a letter box…American mailboxes have all ends of creative possibilities!
