Back in 1984, Sarajevo was the host city for the Winter Olympics. They built a bobsled track on Trebevic Mountain (completed 1982) which continued to be used for races right up until the Bosnian War began in 1992. Because of the vantage point above the city it was then used by Military forces. When the war finished in 1996, the bobsled track lay abandoned, the costs to get it back to working condition were too high. It has since been covered in street art and graffiti and overtaken by the forests surrounding it. The Sarajevo bobsled track had been on my bucket list to visit for years. As a huge bobsleigh fan it was a must see and it didn’t disappoint me in the slightest!
Now my regular readers will know that I’m not a fan of winter or being cold. So of course I’m more likely to be attracted to a ski resort when ironically there’s no snow. These little mountain towns do summer activities SO WELL. Just take Mayrhofen, Austria in Summer…AMAZING! Canada is no different, Whistler is full of awesome summer activities. I share some of my favourite activities in this things to do in Whistler summer guide!
For AGES, the adrenaline activity that was right at the top of my bucket list was to be a passenger in a bobsleigh. I love the Cool Runnings Disney film, I visited the Whistler (Canada) track in the summer, and I watch the Bobsleigh World Cup every winter (I was a huge Steve Holcomb fan…RIP). In 2013 I finally ticked it off the bucket list and it didn’t disappoint, I was like a kid at Christmas! I even kissed my hard boiled egg at breakfast, just like Sanka in Cool Runnings! Here’s a look at my Sigulda bobsleigh experience!
