Another month gone already! Here I’ll be looking back on what I’ve been up to this month, the places I’ve been, the highs and lows, how the endless visa process is going and other random things I’m finding interesting this month! This month has been EXHAUSTING!!!

As you can see, I’ve been crazy busy this month, I’ve done SO much and I’m exhausted! The first week of August was spent at lots of little family ‘leaving’ parties (thank you everyone!). I’ve been in the States for 3 weeks now. I got to spend the first week showing my family around where I’ll be living in America and doing lots of fun things (such as Maquoketa Caves State Park), I had a job interview the day after I landed, I ACCEPTED the job and have now been working for 2 weeks, I passed my USA driving test, I’ve been river tubing and then I’ve had to do all the non fun stuff like sorting out my house, setting up banks and phone contracts etc etc. It’s been non stop and I don’t see it slowing down for a little while!
I had to say goodbye to my family. It was hard saying it to the ones I left in England and it was even harder saying bye to my parents and sister when they went home from the States after their week long trip. I literally cried for hours and felt empty for days. It was horrible, I knew I was going to find it hard, but I didn’t realise it was going to be quite so awful. I’ve been FaceTiming every day and that definitely helps.
Once again I smashed my monthly views out of the park so thank you everyone for following along with my journey. There’ll be a lot more expat musings now I’m here and lots of Iowa and Midwest travel stories! I’ve rejected social media a little this month, it was hard to keep up while I had no phone contract and I’ve been so so busy with everything that’s going on!
This post was one of my most popular this month!: 15 Crazy Differences Living in Iowa/USA
Songs For The Playlist
DNCE – Cake by the Ocean…I know I know it’s been on my ‘Playlist’ for several months now, but it’s constantly played on the local radio here!
Apps I’m Enjoying
Snapchat. It’s really good for keeping in contact with my Mum and Sister 🙂
Book of the Month
So far I’m on target for my 2 books a month challenge! You can check out my 2016 category challenge here! Again, just like my social media channels, reading has been rejected this month too, the only book I read, was the one I read on the flight between UK and America!
Books read = ONE
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – JK Rowling
Book of the Month:
(By default) Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – JK Rowling
My rating: 4/5! It was different reading a play rather than a proper story book, I whizzed through the whole thing in around 4hours. I don’t want to say too much as I don’t want to spoil it, but the storyline was strange…very strange. Being called the ‘Cursed Child’ I was expecting something but definitely not the path it took! I think I’m going to have to read it again and I still really want to see it in the theatre on a return trip home!
Other Things That Have No Category!
Calling all Eastern Iowans…if you’ve been out and about doing your grocery shopping and have seen an ‘International Food’ aisle that stocks British food, please let me know! Since being in America, believe it or not, I’ve lost 7lbs (that’s half a stone) and could do with some British food to fatten me back up! Although I discovered today that the local BP petrol station has an amazing vending machine that does thick milkshakes (cake batter = YUM) but I can’t chub out on milkshake! I have some Marmite being shipped over next month…strange what you miss when you can’t get hold of it!
What’s Coming up in September
Next weekend here in America, it’s a ‘bank holiday’, so I’m going camping for the long weekend break. It’s my 1st wedding anniversary too! The visa cooperated and got me here in time so we could actually spend it together! Then I’m off to St Louis, MISSOURI for the 2nd time! I first stayed there while driving Route 66 back in 2011 and now I’m going back to tick something off my American bucket list…I’m going to a Major League Baseball game! I’m sure there’ll be plenty more exploring too before the weather turns bad!
Don’t forget to follow me on my Social Media Channels!
Phew! Have a great September everyone!
