Another month gone already! Here I’ll be looking back on what I’ve been up to this month, the places I’ve been, the highs and lows, how the endless visa process is going and other random things I’m finding interesting this month! *Little Side Note* I’m still not quite an Expat yet…preparing myself for when I am!
Days since the first visa correspondence = 191
We’re well on the roll with the NVC stage of the process now! We’ve paid all the NVC fees and are just waiting for the IV form to be released…this is my immigrant registration form so it’s a big one. We’ve also been collecting supporting documents for the NVC pack. My UK police check should be arriving in the next few days too. When this stage is complete, London will over take for the last stage of the process.
10/3/16 – NVC Welcome Letter received in the mail (USA) with our NVC case number
11/3/16 – AOS Fee paid and Choice of Agent submitted online
22/3/16 – NVC Welcome Letter received in the mail (UK)

Where I’ve Been
Mexico: Playa Del Carmen, Playacar
Me and the husband met up in Mexico! (Seems like ages ago now!) I’m advised not to go into the States while my visa is in process so we met across the border for a few days! It had been 6 months since I saw him last! I really enjoyed visiting the Xplor park, zip lining was really fun, loved the water landings!
We got scammed at Cancun airport. We arrived on 2 different flights, couldn’t find each other, then couldn’t find the transfer bus to the hotel and then the airport security refused to let us back through to where the official taxis were because we had left the arrivals area. Ended up paying $140 (!!!) for a taxi to Cancun – Playacar…just under an hours journey. We weren’t happy but we were glad we had managed to find each other…that was more important!
I’ve been fiddling around with menus and I now have a website icon! Decided for now that I’m going to stay being hosted on WordPress.com!
Blogs I’ve Contributed to This Month
Sharing some love for other blogs I’ve contributed to! Go check them out!
9 of the Biggest Pet Peeves While Flying – Roaming Required. I once ended up being seated BETWEEN a couple, that continued to talk and pass food across me for the whole flight…highly annoying!
Songs For The Playlist
DNCE – Cake by the Ocean (makes no sense at all but it just sounds like a happy summer song)
Apps I’m Enjoying
FrontBack to the Future – Its a free app that takes photos at the same time, using both the front and back cameras on an iPhone/iPod. As me and the husband don’t get to see each other often, I like to get pictures of us together and I love that this way I get to document what is the other side of the lens too!
2016 Reading Challenge
So far I’m on target for my 2 books a month challenge! This month I have also completed FOUR categories on my category challenge!
- A recommendation from someone else
A Street Cat Named Bob – James Bowen
My Rating: 5/5 – I couldn’t put this one down, I read it in a couple of days! It’s a true story that follows a guy from London that was on drugs and living in assisted living (one step up from being homeless) who was trying to make a living by busking in Covent Gardens. One day he came across a stray cat who ended up following him to his busking pitch. They became friends and it gave James a new reason to live, he had someone he loved and cared for, he had responsibility. You see homeless people, buskers, Big Issue sellers everywhere, it gave an interesting insight to the people that wouldn’t always get given a 2nd glance.
- A Biography
The Soundtrack to my Life – Dermot O’Leary
My Rating: 4/5 – Dermot O’Leary is a well known TV and radio presenter in the UK. I found his biography interesting because he used to live literally 20minutes from me so I could relate to some of the places he wrote about! He speaks about songs that remind him of certain points in his life. I think a lot of people can relate to this, a lot of songs take me back to certain places and memories!
- The book version of a movie
Where She Went – Gayle Forman
My Rating: 3/5 – I cheated on this one, the movie is actually about the first book ‘If I Stay’, I was going to read that but I decided to read the follow up instead because I wanted to know what happened! Couldn’t put it down, but I’ve given it a middle ground rating because it was pretty predicable even though I enjoyed it. Based in New York City, on the relationship of a classical music artist and a rock star. May need to see the film or read the first book to truly understand the back story to this.
- A book that’s made the top 20 charts in a bookstore
Us – David Nicholls
My Rating: 3/5 – Saw this at an airport bookshop and made a note to download it! Based on a family that aren’t ‘happy’, the husband and wife are at the point of breaking up and the son is soon heading off to university. The husband books one last summer holiday for the family, travelling around Europe, in hope to strengthen their marriage. It flicks backwards and forwards between the past and present. Interesting read, kept me hooked throughout.
Other Things That Have No Category!
This has been the first month of me not working! I quit my job at the end of February so I could go to Mexico, concentrate on the visa and start sorting out my stuff for when I emigrate. Every day I’ve been typing up all my old travel journals, it’s been great and so many memories that I’d forgotten come flooding back! This is why I ALWAYS keep a journal when I travel!
What’s Coming up in APRIL
I’m off to PRAGUE in 3 weeks time with my sister! I’ve found a couple of unique cool things to do, that haven’t appeared on the typical ‘must sees’ in Prague so I’m looking forward to giving them a shot!
Don’t forget to follow me on my Social Media Channels!
Phew! Have a great April everyone!
