5 Travel Inspiration Quotes

First post of 2016 and I thought I’d start with some positive inspiration, 5 of my favourite travel related quotes!  In some way or another, they’ve encouraged me to travel and live my life to the fullest!

“Stop Just Dreaming About It”

This I guess is one of the earliest quotes I remember that made me think, ‘yeah, anything is possible!’.  As pictured above, I first saw it on a banner that ran the full length of a surf hire building, on a camp site in Cornwall, UK.  Every day I walked by it to the beach and I just really loved it!

“Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious…and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths” – Walt Disney

Taken from Disney’s ‘Meet the Robinsons’ film.  I know it rings true for me, it’s probably the reason why every time I tick one thing off my bucket list, 5 more things get added to it!

“Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out shouting DUDE WHAT A RIDE!!!” – Unknown

I’m an adrenline junkie, I’ve taken a fair few batterings: harnesses rubbing, being smacked in the head by surf boards, face planting on wakeboards…wouldn’t change it for anything though!

Bungee Jump

“Once the travel bug bites there is no known antidote, and I know that I shall be happily infected until the end of my life” – Michael Palin

I find travel to be so addictive.  I realise I have been so lucky to be my age and have seen as much of the world as I have.  It scares me to think that one day I may not be in a position to travel as much as I do, I love it so much!

Maldives

“Big decisions are only really scary up until the point you make them and then the fear gives way to excitement and the adventure of ‘what if?'” – Sarah Alderson

I recently read Sarah Alderson’s book ‘Can We Live Here’, about a couple and their little kid who gave up their jobs and their boring London life to find somewhere new to settle.  I enjoyed it and loved her honesty.  This particular quote stuck with me though.  In my current situation being in a 2 continent long distance relationship, for us to work, one of us was going to have to up sticks and take the 4000 mile journey away from home.  I’m not going to lie, it was a scary decision that took me a good few months to decide.

Other travel related quotes…

Not so much of a quote relating to travel, more of a travel related quote game!  When travelling along old Route 66, alongside the edge of the road are Burma Shave advertising billboard poems.  Usually spread out on 5 signs over the space of say 150 metres, each board would have a different line of a jingle.  We’d often spot them and ended up chanting them out as a whole family!  When I returned home, I bought a book of every one of the jingles that had been written!

The Verse By The Side of The Road – Rowsome Frank

Burma Shave Route 66

The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho

One of my favourite inspirational travel related books is ‘The Alchemist’.  Someone recommended it and I just ended up loving it.  At first I felt like I could relate to the travel side, it’s about a boy that travels from Spain to Morocco…a trip I had taken just before reading it.  It’s full of quotes about finding yourself and the importance of things that happen in life.
